Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 10 and 11 year old children enjoy.

During the year the children enjoy a range of texts in English, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in all aspects of maths and in science some of our topics are electricity, light, inheritance and the environment. In history we study Victorian Britain and Ancient Islamic Civilisation and in geography we consider our impact on the environment, weather and climate and rainforests. We use digital resources to develop our project management skills and to write code in computing.

A selection of trips and workshops bring this learning to life such as: a volcanoes and earthquakes workshop at the Natural History Museum and a Victorian life history workshop.

One of the highlights of the year is our four-night residential trip to Barton Hall in Devon, where the children will take part in exciting as well as challenging activities. We end our year with a Leavers' Assembly and all of the children's memories from their time at Great Bookham School are captured in their yearbook.

Please find below details of the presentation shared with parents at the information meeting.
