Special Educational Needs and Disability

How we support children at Great Bookham School:

At Great Bookham School we aim to provide our children with a broad and balanced curriculum that is ambitious and meets the needs of all learners.  We recognise that, from time to time, some children may need special help either to overcome barriers to learning or to ensure that the curriculum fully extends their abilities.  The SEND Policy and SEND Information Report sets out how our school will support and make provision for pupils with special educational needs and disability (SEND) and explains the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in providing for pupils with SEND.

We acknowledge that not all pupils with disabilities will have special educational needs and that not all pupils with special educational needs will meet the definition of disability.  We embrace the fact that every child is different and therefore, the needs of every child are different.  Consequently, staff are committed to teaching that builds confidence and maximises opportunities to unlock each child’s potential.

The school’s Special Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and contact for Looked After Children (LAC) is Dr Susan Boagey who oversees school-based SEND support and liaises with a range of specialists and external support agencies

For more information about supporting pupils with SEND, including our procedures for early identification and our graduated approach, please see our SEND Policy and SEND Information Report with the Policies tab.
