Great Bookham School Behaviour

All staff and the Governing board at Great Bookham School strongly believe that all pupils have the right to feel safe and valued, whilst at school. They should be able to learn, play, travel to and from school and live their lives without fear of, or disruption by, others associated with the school.

The school vision for behaviour at Great Bookham School is to ‘Inspire children through excellence’, and in order to achieve this, we are committed to creating an environment where exemplary behaviour and attitudes are at the heart of productive learning. Everyone is expected to maintain the highest standards of personal conduct, motivation and positive attitude to learning for their behaviour and encourage others to do the same.

Our school’s PRIDE Values inform our behaviours and permeate through our curriculum. The school has 3 simple rules:

  • Be Ready
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible

Bullying Prevention Policy

At Great Bookham School, we aim to provide a safe, caring and friendly environment for all our pupils to allow them to learn effectively, improve their life chances and help them maximise their potential.

We would expect pupils to feel safe in school, including an understanding of the issues relating to safety, such as bullying. We also want them to feel confident to seek support from school should they feel unsafe or concerned

Every child should be able to learn in a school environment free from bullying of any kind and in which they feel safe and supported. There is no place for bullying in our schools and communities and each of us involved in education has a role in creating a culture in schools where bullying is not tolerated (Safe to Learn 2007).

Exclusions Policy 

It is the policy of Great Bookham School to try to deal with all behavioural issues in an active, positive way, employing a wide range of strategies, to avoid such issues reaching the point of exclusion.  Exclusions take place only for very serious incidents or when other strategies have been tried and have failed over time. Please read the attached policy for more information. 

In most cases exclusion will be the last resort after a range of measures have been tried to improve the pupil's behaviour and after a range of strategies have been put in place to address the inappropriate behaviour which may lead to exclusion.
