EYFS

Welcome to EYFS

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities, areas of learning and discovery opportunities that our 4 to 5 year old children enjoy.

During the year, the children have access to multiple outside areas and an exciting classroom: all areas offer a rich and stimulating environment which embrace all aspects of the EYFS curriculum. Our extensive grounds allow the children to freely explore and develop their imaginative, creative and physical side.

As the children arrive in Reception there is a strong focus on Communication, Language and Literacy (CLL). The Literacy curriculum is covered through a variety of traditional tales, non-fiction text and stories from other cultures. With role-play areas available through the setting, children enjoy applying new stories and imaginative features to their play and also adding their own twists to stories they know and love.

We place a strong emphasis on the importance of the early development of reading and writing, with dedicated times for both of these skills. The children also learn how to pronounce and write sounds through 'Phonics Steps', a systematic program of phonics,  where they continually progress and learn new sounds. They have a ‘Learning to Read’ book matched to the individual sounds they have learnt at home and in school – as well as a book to instill a love of reading from the school library.

Our creative curriculum covers all aspects of the EYFS areas of learning and we are particularly proud to offer standalone PE lessons.

One of the highlights of the year is our Christmas Nativity where the children thoroughly enjoy displaying their newfound confidence on stage, alongside children in Year 1 and Year 2.

We value the importance of building strong relationships with our parents, keeping the child at heart. Parents are welcome to help in school as parent readers, surprise storytellers, with arts and craft projects and on school trips. Parents are also welcome to attend workshops as well as enjoying watching their child's whole class assembly in the Summer term.

Thank you for visiting our page and we hope you enjoy seeing what an exciting time we have in EYFS.
