Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 8 and 9 year old children enjoy.
During the year, children enjoy a range of texts in English, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children learn timetables to 12 x 12 and become more skilled in using and applying the four operations in maths and learn more about place value through investigations. Children use their science enquiry skills to predict, plan and record observations. Our topics range from teeth and eating to changes of state to lifecycles and habitats. In History, we study Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings learning about life in the past and challenging the credibility of historical sources. In conjunction with our historical topics, our geography enables to children to become more familiar with maps and basic orienteering skills. In computing, children learn to debug programmes and use Scratch to design and create purposeful algorithms.
In art, children create a range of pieces including mosaic tiles illuminated letters and printed Pop Art. In DT, they design and make sewn pencil cases, renewable energy models and bake bread.
One of the highlights of the year is our one night residential trip to Henley Fort near Guildford, where the children have the opportunity to utilise and develop their team-building skills. They accomplish tasks in collaboration with one another, including climbing, team challenges and forest school activities.
