Sport
Our aim in Physical Education is to help children learn and improve their skills in a wide variety of sports and physical activities. They also learn how taking part in sport and physical activity contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
Children in all years are encouraged to take part at whatever level they can in a range of skills activities, mini games and matches. A positive attitude towards team games is fostered enabling children to understand the importance of team-work, co-operation and sportsmanship. Children also learn and develop skills in gymnastics and dance, working individually and as part of a group to practise and perform sequences of balances and movements.
In year 4, all children have swimming lessons at Leatherhead Leisure Centre in line with National Curriculum expectations that they can swim 25 metres in 2 recognisable strokes and rescue themselves from the water.
During residential visits in year 4, 5 and 6, children take part in outdoor adventurous activities including team challenges, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and obstacle courses.
Extra-curricular sports activities and clubs take place before school, at lunchtime and at the end of the school day run by both school staff and outside providers, including athletics, cricket, football, netball, rounders, volleyball, tag-rugby, badminton, benchball, dance and dodgeball. We take part in many competitive and non-competitive festivals, matches and events including within the Effingham Learning Partnership group of schools, SFET and events run by Active Surrey and Surrey Cricket Club.
We are always seeking to extend the range and variety of experiences that we can offer our children and if you are able to help in any way, please get in touch.
